DEFENCE ANIMAL CENTRE OPEN DAY Saturday 1st June

The Defence Animal Centre in Melton Mowbray are having an Open Day on Saturday 1st June.

FREE ADMISSION  but donations from the event are being split three ways with Dove being one of the benefitting charities!

A unique chance to discover how the military train their dogs and horses for their roles within Defence.

Come and meet the horses that take part in the state and ceremonial events in London

Bring the family and picnic in the show field

Disabled parking and disabled transport available

Meet the farriers and learn how they make horseshoes and watch as they shoe the horses.

Gain an insight into the comprehensive care provided by the Veterinary Training Squadron, with behind the scenes access to all areas.

No dogs other than assistance dogs are permitted.

GARDENING VOLUNTEERS

Do you like gardening?

Our Tea Room garden at Stathern is looking a little tired and overgrown.

Do you have a couple of hours you could spare us to help to tidy up and weed the borders. We’ve got lots of lovely plants and flowers in them but they are getting lost with the weeds.

TEA ROOM VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Our Tea Room at Stathern are desperately seeking some new volunteers.

The volunteers fulfil a variety of roles including preparing hot and cold food, taking orders, serving the customers and using the tils to take payment.

Volunteers usually work around a four hour shift but this is flexible.

Countrywide Dog Show

Countrywide Store held a fun dog show on Sunday 21st April with all proceeds from the event being donated to Dove Cottage Day Hospice.

The event was a big success and raised a fabulous £280.00 for the hospice.  Classes included Best Sausage Catcher; Best Child Handler; Handsomest Dog; Prettiest Bitch; Golden Oldie; Cutest Puppy & the Dog the Judge would most like to take home.

 

Huge thanks from Dove Cottage to Countrywide’s Lisa Hammond and her colleagues for organising the show, the Sponsors who supplied the lovely prizes and to all those who took part! Also thanks to Simon at Countrywide for taking great photos and for giving them to Dove Cottage.

On Wednesday 10 April 2013, Dove Cottage are delighted to announce it is to receive £357,00 from the Department of Health to build a new extension to its existing building.

Staff were delighted to join Chris Gatfield our Chief Executive to celebrate her ‘big’ birthday on Friday 1st March with dinner at The Thatch Restaurant in Bottesford.

Snow update

All things being equal and the with the snowy weather due to thaw we are hoping to resume full operational service again from Monday 28th January.
