This Saturday… British Clarinet Ensemble

British Clarinet Ensemble in concert to raise funds for the Dove Cottage Day Hospice

The British Clarinet Ensemble was formed in 1995 and is one of the leading wind ensembles in the UK. The ensemble features all the instruments of the clarinet family and their repertoire consists of both original compositions many by leading British composers and arrangements of well-known music in a variety of styles. The BCE has given many performances both in the UK and internationally; most recently this summer in the Netherlands and Italy.

They are visiting Oakham on Saturday 21st October to give a concert in the Oakham School Chapel at 7.30pm. The guest soloists are soprano Caroline Trutz and Antonia Mott the leader of the BCE. Caroline will be singing pieces by Villa Lobos, Rachmaninov and Mozart. Antonia will be performing Weber’s Concertino for Clarinet. The conductor of the BCE Charles Hine is well known both as a clarinettist and conductor.

The programme includes the UK premier of Andy Scott’s “Momento”. Andy has previously composed three pieces for the BCE and his latest work was commissioned by The South Tirol Clarinet Ensemble who are based in Bolzano,Italy. They wanted a piece to celebrate the tenth anniversary of their formation so the music contains both homage to the local Tirolean music as well as acknowledging the 100th anniversaries of three giants of the world of jazz Thelonious Monk, Ella Fitzgerald and Dizzy Gillespie all born in 1917.

Saturday 21st October at Oakham School Chapel

7.30pm onwards
