Gift Aid is a fantastic way to increase your gift to us. Every gift you make, whatever the value, could be worth more to us at no extra cost to yourself, just by choosing to Gift Aid it. Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs will add an extra 25p to every £1 you give to Dove Cottage Day Hospice.
How does it work?
It’s really quite simple. Once you have given your permission by completing a Gift Aid form, we can claim the tax back on your donation. This means that a gift of say £10, can be worth £12.50, at no extra cost to yourself.
Does it only cover regular giving?
Not at all. It doesn’t matter whether it is a one-off gift or a regular donation. We can claim the tax back on any donation made in the past four years and the good thing is you only ever have to fill in one form. One signed form can cover every gift made to us for whatever period you choose, and can cover gifts you have already made and/or gifts you may make in the future.
How do I know if I am eligible for Gift Aid?
You can use Gift Aid if the amount of Income and/or Capital Gains Tax you’ve paid in the tax year in which you make your donation is at least equal to the amount of basic rate tax Dove Cottage will reclaim on your gift.
You don’t necessarily have to be working to be paying tax. Apart from tax on income from a job or self-employment, the tax you’ve paid could include:
- Tax deducted at source from savings interest
- Tax on State Pension and/or other pensions
- Tax on investment or rental income
- Capital Gains Tax on gains
