What is Knipfest all about?

In 2005 Julie Copley was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and started treatment. Whilst having the treatment, Julie and John Copley began fund raising for  “Breakthrough Cancer” and “Cancer Research”. Julie took part in a 50k walk with a group of friends, and arranged 2 gigs at Woodland Waters. Golf Days were also arranged along with other events. In total we raised an amount of approximately £25,000.

Julie was clear of this horrible disease for nearly 5 years, but unfortunately it returned in her liver and spine. Again she had treatment, but sadly lost her battle in 2010. Julie was loved dearly by all her friends and family and will be missed always.

Whilst Julie was undergoing treatment for the second time, her husband John was watching the London marathon, and thought it would be a good idea to do a Bike Ride from Lands End to John o’Groats. So he picked up the phone and called his good friend Phil Noon, who agreed immediately, and so the Rawhide Riders were formed. Joining John and Phil on this trip would be, Dave Penford, Johnnie Watchorn and Billy “the machine” Jessop. Lots of fun was had throughout the trip, and more money was raised for Cancer Research and the local Grantham Hospice.

Since then, we have held an annual Charity gig at Belvoir Cricket Club, to raise money for the Charities, with Phil’s band “Crazy Ape” kindly performing every year… and so the annual live music event known as Knipfest was born.

In order to raise awareness of our annual concert, not only have we cycled the length of the country, we have canoed the Caledonian Canal, done the national 3 peaks walk, and even driven to France and back on some old bangers..  so who knows what may be in store for this year.

Since its inception, the annual Knipfest live music event has increased in popularity year on year, and draws each year on the success of the previous years, with  new acts performing… and some not so new. Due to the growth of the event, we have a new venue this year, The Kesteven Rugby Club. The committee of John Copley, Richard Hart, Phil Noon, and Johnnie Watchorn assure you of a great show this year with some fabulous new acts, and as ever a wide selection of food and drink to keep you going throughout the evening.

In the lead up to Knipfest 2017 we will continually keep you posted with news and events via our social media channels and here on our official website.

In 2013 we raised around £75,000.. to date we have now raised over £120,000 for our supported charities. Thank you for all your support, and hopefully see you in July this year.
