Volunteer Roles at Dove Cottage Day Hospice

Volunteer Roles

Volunteer roles are an integral part of Dove Cottage Day Hospice. If you have a few hours to spare each week, you could be of such a help to us. We’ll support you all the way. Because of our work with vulnerable adults, volunteers do need to have a CRB check. This is a very simple process and we guide you through it!

Assisting Our Nursing Team in the Hospice

Our wonderful hospice nurses always need help in caring for our guests. This diverse role might include making drinks, socializing, helping at meal times or playing games such as scrabble or dominoes.

Driving Patients to and from the Hospice

We are always in need of drivers to use their own car to bring our guests to and from the hospice. Obviously we cover petrol costs. We are also in need of people to drive our mini-bus. No special licence is required and full training is given. It’s not as daunting as it sounds!

Helping at a Fundraising Event

Our fundraising forms a vital part of the daily life of the Hospice. It gives people in our community the chance to get involved in fundraising events and raise much needed funds. To make our events and campaigns fun, safe and financially successful we need fundraising volunteers to both help organize our own events or maybe even organize their own!

Assisting with Craft Activities and Outings

Our guests love it whenever we have a craft activity or go out for the day and we are always looking for new ideas. If you have any hobbies or skills that you would like to share with others, we’d love to hear from you.

Becoming a Befriender

We are always looking for caring individuals who can befriend people in their own homes and give their carers a break for an hour or two. No experience is necessary as we provide all the training needed, as well as any travel expenses.

Helping in the Kitchen

Our wonderful hospice cooks always welcome a hand with either preparing meals or help with the washing up!

Supporting our Admin & Fundraising Team

Fundraising events take a lot of organizing and we are always looking for some more members of the team.

‘Handy’ People

To help with all those DIY jobs that need doing, both at the hospice and our tearoom/charity shop.

Tearoom

Since 2009 we have been running a very successful tearoom which is making a huge contribution to hospice funds. It can be very busy and we are always on the look out for lots of energetic volunteers to help!

Charity Shop

People are so generous, donating their unwanted goods to our charity shop. We are always in need of people to help sort these goods and prepare them for sale in the shop.

Testimonials

I would just like to thank everyone involved with Dove Cottage Day Hospice for the care and friendship they have shown my dad, Robert. He has had a new lease of life since coming to Dove Cottage and he looks forward to Wednesdays so much. Thanks everyone.
