Ria Prior supported Dove Cottage by trekking the Great Wall of China. Here’s her story:

Dove Cottage Great Wall of China Adventure Challenge“The China trek was one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done but also one of the most memorable, rewarding and most certainly an experience of a lifetime. Global Challenges are so well organised. Every detail of the challenge from the trek, hotels, meals and optional trips were well thought out; we got to see various parts of the wall and different aspects like rural villages and the busy city centre of Beijing. The toughest part was the steep inclines and the achy legs the day after but as a group we helped one another. The feeling when we completed the trek was one of accomplishment and emotion as we got to lay our own brick on the wall with our personal message. The group were so close from day one – everyone was made welcome into the group and we had lots of laughs along the way. I’m so pleased we chose to do this for Dove Cottage, my grandad attended the hospice and it makes me happy to see the money raised will go to such a worthy cause.”

Kilimanjaro Trek

17-27 June 2021, 16-26 September 2021

Tanzania Kilimanjaro

It is a magnet for trekkers the world over and one of the most impressive charity events on offer.

Its snow-capped summit rises high above the dusty African plains; huge permanent glaciers flow down from the summit, spectacular views and beautiful ice formations are the reward for pushing our limits both physically and mentally on this, the mightiest of charity challenges.

This is a tough trek in the world of charity challenge events which follows the beautiful Machame Route, approaching Kilimanjaro from the south. Our route has been designed allowing gradual acclimatisation to the altitude – with an extra day included from the more traditional Machame Route, this gives us the platform for summit success.  With our exceptional support and care combined with highly trained leaders and medics, we will achieve and conquer the toughest of treks together as one.

Our trek for charity takes us through dense tropical rainforest, moorland and scree until we reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point. This is one of the most challenging charity treks at altitude, climbing one of the most impressive mountains in the world. On reaching the summit we will feel a sense of overwhelming achievement – a truly unforgettable charity challenge with exceptional support and encouragement.

PRICE: Minimum sponsorship – £4500 (which also covers the trek cost), plus £399 registration fee and £250 airport tax

Great Wall of China Trek

8-16 May 2021, 11-19 September 2021, 16-24 October 2021

China Great Wall

“You have not lived if you have not been to the Great Wall”, or so the Chinese saying goes, and it’s not surprising why! The Great Wall of China has been voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Stretching for 6,000km, it zig zags its way across China, snaking across mountains and through valleys.

The China Great Wall Trek for charity is a fantastic 5 day hike along this awesome man made structure. One of the best in charity treks, this challenge takes you over watch towers and mountains, through historic battlement stations that are well off the tourist trail – there are many sections during this charity challenge where you will feel the Great Wall is for you only, with no-one else in sight. Rest assured, the Great Wall provides a fantastic backdrop to some fantastic trekking.

Exclusive to Global Adventure Challenges, this most amazing of fundraising events also enables us to ‘lend a hand’ repairing a section of the Wall that is currently being reconstructed. Each will place a brick in this newly restored section, ensuring your own place in the Great Wall of China!

The trekking on this charity challenge is hard, due to the amount of steps we trek up and down each day – it can sometimes take an hour just to trek 1km on this glorious structure! Another highlight of this challenge is to conquer the 1,000 steps up to the wall at Mutianyu – culminating with the ascent of the ‘Heavenly Ladder’.

PRICE: Minimum sponsorship – £2800 (which also covers the trek cost), plus £299 registration fee and £250 airport tax

London to Paris Bike Ride

2-6 June 2021, 14-18 July, 2021, 11-15 August 2021, 8-12 September 2021

London to Paris bike ride

Our London to Paris Bike Ride is an awesome cycling challenge and is by far one of the best fundraising events in Europe, attracting hundreds of riders each year and raising thousands for charities nationwide.

We’ll spend 4 days in the saddle, cycling 311 miles from capital to capital. Our journey begins in London with the route taking us through glorious English countryside as we cycle from Kent to Dover, before crossing the Channel to Calais. Once across the water, we start cycling ‘French style’, remembering to keep to the right!  We cycle along quiet French country lanes, through traditional market towns with views of the rolling green hills of Northern France, passing the war memorials and cemeteries of the Somme.

A spectacular finish awaits us as we reach the home stretch around the Arc de Triomphe and down the Champs Elysées, before reaching the piece de resistance, the Eiffel Tower, which marks our finish line. The days in the saddle may be long but the sense of achievement we’ll feel crossing the finish line and the euphoric atmosphere as we celebrate our achievements in this magnificent capital, the saddle soreness soon wears off!

PRICE: Minimum sponsorship – £1600 (which also covers the ride cost), plus £125 registration fee
